Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday they post a new Top Ten list prompt. This week it’s a Valentine’s Day freebie! I’m not much of a romance reader, but i don’t mind a romantic sub-plot, so here’s my list of Top Ten Romantic Suspense novels for Valentine’s Day.
10. The Black Opal by Victoria Holt
Like it says on the cover – the Queen of Romantic Suspense!
9. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
This one is still one my TBR pile, but seems to fit the category so well I had to include it even without having read it!
8. Nine Coaches Waiting by Mary Stewart
A gothic romance classic.
7. Dawn by V.C. Andrews
Expect things to be a little twisted coming from V.C. Andrews – but I liked this one.
6. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
A little of everything – vampires and witches, historical fiction, paranormal, romance…
5. Naked in Death by J. D .Robb
The first Eve Dallas novel – Eve is a NY police detective in this police procedural / thriller series set in the near future. This series is perfect if you like your romance on the steamy side.
4. Be Buried in the Rain by Barbara Michaels
3. The Turquoise Mask by Phyllis A. Whitney
2. Let me Call You Sweetheart by Mary Higgins Clark
1. The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley
The perfect gothic-style suspense with a touch of the paranormal. I love this cover, love the story, and love Susanna Kearsley!
Your turn! Leave me a link to your post or let me know what you’ll be reading this Valentine’s Day in the comments.
Oooh, I’ll have to read the Mary Stewart!

I like how you incorporated romantic suspense novels here. I’m like you, I’m not a big fan of the romance novels. I’m a sucker for a good romance, but I don’t have any desire to seek them out. ice to know I’m not the only one trying to do something a little different this week. 😀

I don’t mind romance in a novel at all, but I need something else going on to make me care about the characters and whether or not they end up together.

I actually get annoyed when authors focus too much on relationships. And don’t get me started on series that always pairs everyone up. I don’t know why, but I feel too many authors worry about personal relationships in books, instead of worrying about telling a story. It’s why I typically avoid romances.

I have been wanting to read the In Death series but just have never started it! I need to move it up my TBR!

I like how you made the challenge your own; even if you’re not a romance fan. Good to see some Mary Higgins Clark on the list!

Fun topic choice! I loved A Discovery of Witches. What a great read. I remember reading Dawn, but don’t remember exactly what happened in it, all those VC Andrews books blend together for me, this many years later. 🙂

It’s been years since I read VC Andrews too, but I went through a whole bunch of them at once when I did!

I’ve got to read the latest one. Excited to see Mr. Mira get some more ‘screen’ time.
