Top Ten Romantic Suspense novels for Valentine’s Day

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. Every Tuesday they post a new Top Ten list prompt. This week it’s a Valentine’s Day freebie! I’m not much of a romance reader, but i don’t mind a romantic sub-plot, so here’s my list of Top Ten Romantic Suspense novels for Valentine’s Day.

10. The Black Opal by Victoria Holt
The Black Opal
Like it says on the cover – the Queen of Romantic Suspense!

9. Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier
Rebecca
This one is still one my TBR pile, but seems to fit the category so well I had to include it even without having read it!

8. Nine Coaches Waiting by Mary Stewart
Nine Coaches Waiting
A gothic romance classic.

7. Dawn by V.C. Andrews
Dawn (Cutler, #1)
Expect things to be a little twisted coming from V.C. Andrews – but I liked this one.

6. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1)
A little of everything – vampires and witches, historical fiction, paranormal, romance…

5. Naked in Death by J. D .Robb
Naked in Death (In Death, #1)
The first Eve Dallas novel – Eve is a NY police detective in this police procedural / thriller series set in the near future. This series is perfect if you like your romance on the steamy side.

4. Be Buried in the Rain by Barbara Michaels
Be Buried in the Rain

3. The Turquoise Mask by Phyllis A. Whitney
The Turquoise Mask

2. Let me Call You Sweetheart by Mary Higgins Clark
Let Me Call You Sweetheart

1. The Shadowy Horses by Susanna Kearsley
The Shadowy Horses
The perfect gothic-style suspense with a touch of the paranormal. I love this cover, love the story, and love Susanna Kearsley!

Your turn! Leave me a link to your post or let me know what you’ll be reading this Valentine’s Day in the comments.

  1. I like how you incorporated romantic suspense novels here. I’m like you, I’m not a big fan of the romance novels. I’m a sucker for a good romance, but I don’t have any desire to seek them out. ice to know I’m not the only one trying to do something a little different this week. 😀

      1. I actually get annoyed when authors focus too much on relationships. And don’t get me started on series that always pairs everyone up. I don’t know why, but I feel too many authors worry about personal relationships in books, instead of worrying about telling a story. It’s why I typically avoid romances.
