Engaged in Trouble by Jenny B. Jones – Guest Post and Giveaway

When a washed-up pop star inherits a wedding planning business, it’s all bouquets and bliss until a bride turns up dead.

Paisley Sutton shot to stardom as a teenage rock sensation, but ten years later that star has fizzled out, just like her bank account. When she unexpectedly inherits her aunt’s wedding planning business, Paisley leaves the glamour of Los Angeles for a charming small town in Arkansas. Thinking she’ll arrive in Sugar Creek and liquidate the moldly property, Paisley’s shocked to find Enchanted Events has experienced a major makeover and is now the place for brides. She’s got two months to keep Enchanted Events afloat if she wants to sell and rekindle her music career with the profits.

Paisley’s tossed into a world of vows and venues, but her most difficult challenge comes in the form of one demanding bride. When this Bridezilla’s found facedown in her cake, all fingers point to Paisley as the prime murder suspect. And she does not look good in prison orange.

This former pop princess will need the help of her gun-toting, ex-CIA grandmother and her handsome neighbor, Beau Hudson, to unravel the mystery and clear her good name. As she and her unruly posse dig into Bridezilla’s life, she discovers the woman had a long list of enemies. The closer Paisley gets to the truth, the more her own life is in danger.

Love is in the air this wedding season, but before Paisley can help the ladies of Sugar Creek say, “I do,” she’s got to unveil a killer. Or find herself the next target.

Engaged in Trouble is the first book in the long-awaited Enchanted Events cozy mystery series by award-winning author Jenny B. Jones. If you like laugh-out-loud adventures, small-town romance, unforgettable, sassy characters, and a mystery to keep you guessing, then you’ll love this new page-turning series.

Hoping for the resources she’ll need to renew her singing career, Paisley Sutton moves from LA to Arkansas to take over her late aunt’s wedding planning business. After a difficult bride ends up dead, she finds herself being looked at by the police as suspect number one. With her grandmother and her neighbor as backup, Paisley sets out to solve a crime and save her business.  Funny and fast-fast paced, this is a great cozy. I can’t wait to read more of Paisley’s adventures, and am so excited to have her stop by the blog to talk to us today! Read on to hear what she has to say, and be sure to enter the giveaway before you go.

I’m Paisley Sutton. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, maybe these words will: Electric Femmes. When I was sixteen, I got picked to be in what would become the hottest girl band since Destiny’s Child. You might recognize such intellectual hits such as “Caged in a Love Zoo” and “Tooti, Fruiti, My Boo’s Got a Fine Bootie.”  But well over a decade later, and the band is old history, the lead singer, like Beyonce, is a mega zillionaire star, and the record studios have slammed their doors on my surgically altered nose.  I was at rock bottom and down to my last shut-off notice when the attorney called.

“Your great-aunt Zelda has passed away, and she’s named you in her will.”

I ignored the phone message and the five more that followed. But when the certified letter came that explained I’d inherited Zelda’s wedding planning business, I packed my belongings into my rattle-trap old Camry and left the glitz of Los Angeles for my hometown of Sugar Creek, Arkansas.

Things were going well. All I had to do was run the Enchanted Events for two months, then I could sell the property that was now a hot commodity. But then she came into our place of business. The bridezilla. The bride-to-be of my former fiancé. And when I found her facedown in our sample wedding cakes, everyone thought I had killed her. And when I say everyone, I mean the police. The ones who were ready to escort me to my new iron barred apartment.

Naturally, I have to clear my name. And how am I, Paisley Sutton, washed-up pop star, qualified to investigate? I’m so glad you asked.

  1. I have two WMDs—women of mass destruction—my grandmother and her BFF. Sylvie and Frannie are newly retired CIA, and they are resourceful, smart, and behave barely above the law.

  1. I’m pretty stealth. After ten years of outrunning paparazzi, I know how to fly under the radar and use my natural-born nosiness to dig around without attracting too much attention. Now my gun-toting granny? She’s a walking explosion.

  1. I look good. I don’t want to brag, but I have a closet full of rock star clothes, and I can’t bear to let them go to waste. The current manager at Enchanted Events think I look like a sparkly disaster, but he always dresses like he’s en route to a funeral, so what does he know?

  1. Beau Hudson.
    Sigh.
This hot ex-military hero has been stepping in to help, even though we’re sworn enemies from childhood. Now that he’s my neighbor, Beau’s been great to help out when minor things happen like someone trying to break into my house or kill me. You know, tiny inconveniences. While I can take care of myself, it doesn’t hurt to have a strong, handsome alpha male to be on your team.

  1. If I can stay here in Sugar Creek for two months, I can cash out and get back to L.A. and jumpstart my music career. I’ll do anything to see that happen. Even if that means have a deranged, psycho killer come after me. Even if that means design weddings for people when my own heart is still a little broken. Even if that means letting Sugar Creek get under my skin and try every day to lure me back to my roots.

Join me and my crazy posse in the first book in the Enchanted Events series, Engaged in Trouble, as we get to the bottom of who killed one bridezilla, keep me out of prison, and possibly find a little romance along the way.
