Trigger is a good, gritty detective novel featuring a man seeking redemption for himself as much as proof that his old friend did not shoot an unarmed civilian. This book has a dark tone and less-than-perfect characters that you can’t help but root for anyway. Fast-paced and tense, this book ended up being a quick read for me. Fans of police procedurals and old noir novels should love this series.

Trigger is book #3 in the Frank Marr series, but you can definitely read this as a standalone. I didn’t feel that I was missing anything by not having read the first 2 books first, though I will probably go seek them out after reading this one.

David Swinson is a retired police detective, having served 16 years with the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department. He is the author of two previous novels featuring Frank Marr: The Second Girl and Crime Song. Swinson currently lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, daughter, bull mastiff, and bearded dragon.
