A Murder for the Books by Victoria Gilbert

Fleeing a disastrous love affair, university librarian Amy Webber moves in with her aunt in a quiet, historic mountain town in Virginia. She quickly busies herself with managing a charming public library that requires all her attention with its severe lack of funds and overabundance of eccentric patrons. The last thing she needs is a new, available neighbor whose charm lures her into trouble.

Dancer-turned-teacher and choreographer Richard Muir inherited the farmhouse next door from his great-uncle, Paul Dassin. But town folklore claims the house’s original owner was poisoned by his wife, who was an outsider. It quickly became water under the bridge, until she vanished after her sensational 1925 murder trial. Determined to clear the name of the woman his great-uncle loved, Richard implores Amy to help him investigate the case. Amy is skeptical until their research raises questions about the culpability of the town’s leading families… including her own.

When inexplicable murders plunge the quiet town into chaos, Amy and Richard must crack open the books to reveal a cruel conspiracy and lay a turbulent past to rest in A Murder for the Books, the first installment of Victoria Gilbert’s Blue Ridge Library mysteries.

Review – That Olde White Magick by Sharon Pape

That Olde White Magick (An Abracadabra Mystery, #2)Kailyn Wilde enjoys running her shop, Abracadabra, in the quaint New York hamlet of New Camel, where she lives with her six cats. Her family’s been here for centuries, and she’d like to keep up the tradition. But the place may never be the same if a big hotel gets built, so she does her civic duty and attends a town meeting along with her aunt Tilly . . . and Merlin. Yes, that Merlin—though he gets introduced to folks as her “distant English cousin.” The wizard is pretty grumpy about being transported here, but there are things about the modern world he doesn’t mind—like pizza.

Kailyn was prepared for a heated debate about the hotel, but she wasn’t expecting murder. When Tilly finds the body of a board member outside the schoolhouse, Kailyn doesn’t want any suspicion cast on the wrong person. She plans to crack this case, even if she has to talk to every living soul in town—plus a few departed ones . .

Hummus and Homicide by Tina Kashian – Cover Reveal!

When Lucy Berberian quits her Philadelphia law firm and heads home to Ocean Crest, she knows what she’s getting—the scent of funnel cake, the sight of the wooden roller coaster, and the tastes of her family’s Mediterranean restaurant. But murder wasn’t on the menu . . .

Things are slow in the off-season in this Jersey Shore town, but Lucy doesn’t mind. She doesn’t even mind waitressing at the Kebab Kitchen. Her parents have put in a new hummus bar, with every flavor from lemon to roasted red pepper. It’s fun to see their calico cat again, and to catch up with her old BFF, who’s married to a cop now.

She could do without Heather Banks, though. The Gucci-toting ex-cheerleader is still as nasty as she was back in high school . . . and unfortunately, she’s just taken over as the local health inspector. Just minutes after eating at the Kebab Kitchen—where she’s tallied up a whole list of bogus violations—she falls down dead in the street. Word on the grapevine is it’s homicide, and Lucy’s the number one suspect . . .

About The Author

I grew up in a small ranching community in Colorado where I learned to judge beef on the hoof and under wrap. After moving around the country for my husband’s career and catching college courses as I could, I finally found myself in one place long enough to finish my degree. I was an artist (acrylic), raised three children, managed offices, and started my own genealogy resource business before weaving my stories and experiences into novels. I now lives in central Texas with my patient husband and four cats. In my spare time I do genealogy and historical research and nurses orphan kittens back to health for the local animal shelter.

Some explicit language in a few of the stories.

Whatever Happened To…?

By Lois Winston

Secondary characters in a mystery series often come and go. Sometimes they make an appearance in a later book. Often, depending on the plot, circumstances prevent bringing back a character from an earlier book.

In Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun, the first book in the Anastasia Pollack Crafting Mystery series, early on Anastasia discovers the dead body of fashion editor Marlys Vandenburg glued to her desk chair. (Note, for those of you who haven’t read the book, this is not a plot spoiler. Her murder is mentioned in the book’s back cover copy.) So readers know right up front that Marlys won’t be around for long.

Assistant fashion editor Erica Milano “put in sixteen-hour days, doing all of Marlys’s work while Marlys took three-hour, four-Cosmopolitan lunches and all the credit. Unfortunately, Erica was a doormat, and Marlys, who owned a closet full of Christian Louboutin boots, took extreme pleasure in tramping their trademark red soles all over Erica. Marlys had even bullied her milquetoast assistant into running personal errands for her during her lunch hour.”

When Marlys is murdered, Erica is promoted to fill the empty position.

Erica not only experiences a good deal of character growth in Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun, she also plays a pivotal role in the plot arc. I won’t say how because that would involve spoilers. However, in the end it’s really not possible for her to remain as a recurring character in the series.

But because readers wanted to know what happened to Erica, I brought her back in a novella. That novella, Crewel Intentions, is part of Sleuthing Women II: 10 Mystery Novellas. For those of you who have read Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun and bonded with Erica, you’ll be able to learn about her life afterwards. However, if you haven’t read Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun, you can still enjoy Crewel Intentions without having read Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun. Or you might want to read Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun first. You can find it as part of Sleuthing Women: 10 First-in-Series Mysteries  <http://www.loiswinston.com/sleuthing_women.html>.

Imogen’s spent her twenties in Seattle, saving every penny and missing every party, to follow her dream of opening her own bakery.

When that dream goes up in flames, she accepts a spot in a mysterious baking contest—one she doesn’t remember entering. She travels to a bustling, medieval village off the coast of France and discovers an enchanting world of magic and mystery, and learns that she, too, possesses powers.

She juggles relationships with a sweet new friend, a snarky baking fire, and a brooding, handsome baker. As Imogen falls for this bewitching world, she fears she won’t master her magic in time to win the job of Royal Head Baker, and will be forced to return to the shambles of her non magical life.

It only gets worse, when a competitor drops dead in the middle of the big white baking tent, and Imogen’s the prime suspect. Now, she’ll not only have to survive the vampire and psychic judges, but also clear her name by finding the real murderer, before they strike again.
