Death Gone A-Rye by Winnie Archer – Blog Tour & Excerpt

Synopsis from Goodreads:

In the Northern California seaside town of Santa Sofia, a killer is trying to get a rise out of baker’s apprentice Ivy Culpepper . . .

Vincent van Dough focaccia is being touted on Instagram as the best thing since sliced bread. By strategically placing chives, olives, and yellow peppers to look like poppies and sunflowers, bakers create a mouthwatering masterpiece in the style of the great postimpressionist painter. At Yeast of Eden, where bread making has always been an art, they’re baking their own version for the school district’s Spring Fling.

But one person won’t be tasting the Mexican bakery’s latest specialty. Ambitious school board president Nessa Renchrik has been murdered. Like the rest of this close-knit community, Ivy is shocked. But she’s just as surprised to discover her beau—restaurateur Miguel Baptista—had his own fling with Nessa back in the day and now the police have this half-baked notion he might have killed her. It’s up to Ivy, her boss Olaya Solis, and eighty-six-years-young Penelope Branford to separate the wheat from the chaff to determine who the real culprit is . . .

Spotlight on Lady Rosamund and the Horned God by Barbara Monajem

Lady Rosamund And The Horned God – A Rosie and McBrae Mystery by Barbara Monajem

About Lady Rosamund And The Horned God

Lady Rosamund And The Horned God – A Rosie and McBrae Regency Mystery Historical Cozy Mystery 2nd in Series Publisher – Level Best Books Number of Pages – ~300 Pages

Widowed Lady Rosamund spends the first months of her mourning in the Lake District, where it’s safe and peaceful, and murders are exceedingly rare. Luckily, she is rescued from this tedium by a house party comprised of playwrights, poets, and actors—an immoral set of persons with whom no respectable lady should associate. Even so, she hardly expected to wake in the wee hours to find one of the guests lying dead.

As if that wasn’t troublesome enough, Gilroy McBrae is at the same party, masquerading as a footman to investigate a series of thefts. Was the sudden death an accident—or murder? Almost everyone had reason to loathe their unpleasant fellow guest. Rosie must set aside her confused emotions about McBrae and work with him to find the culprit before an innocent person is accused of the crime.

About the Author

Winner of the Holt Medallion, Maggie, Daphne du Maurier, Reviewer’s Choice and Epic awards, Barbara Monajem wrote her first story at eight years old about apple tree gnomes. She published a middle-grade fantasy when her children were young. When they grew up, she turned to writing for adults, first the Bayou Gavotte paranormal mysteries and then Regency romances with intrepid heroines and long-suffering heroes (or vice versa). Some of her Regencies have magic in them and some don’t (except for the magic of love, which is in every story she writes).

Barbara loves to cook, especially soups, and is an avid reader. There are only two items on her bucket list: to make asparagus pudding and succeed at knitting socks. She’ll manage the first but doubts she’ll ever accomplish the second. This is not a bid for immortality but merely the dismal truth. She lives near Atlanta, Georgia with an ever-shifting population of relatives, friends, and feline strays.

Haunted Hibiscus by Laura Childs – Blog Tour & Giveaway

Haunted Hibiscus (A Tea Shop Mystery) by Laura Childs

Synopsis:

Tea maven Theodosia Browning brews up trouble in the latest Tea Shop Mystery from New York Times bestselling author Laura Childs.

It is the week before Halloween and Theodosia Browning, proprietor of the Indigo Tea Shop, and her tea sommelier, Drayton, are ghosting through the dusk of a cool Charleston evening on their way to the old Bouchard Mansion. Known as the Gray Ghost, this dilapidated place was recently bequeathed to the Heritage Society, and tonight heralds the grand opening of their literary and historical themed haunted house.

Though Timothy Neville, the patriarch of the Heritage Society, is not thrilled with the fund-raising idea, it is the perfect venue for his grandniece, Willow French, to sign copies of her new book, Carolina Crimes & Creepers.

But amid a parade of characters dressed as Edgar Allan Poe, Lady Macbeth, and the Headless Horseman, Willow’s body is suddenly tossed from the third-floor tower room and left to dangle at the end of a rope. Police come screaming in and Theodosia’s boyfriend, Detective Pete Riley, is sent to Willow’s apartment to investigate. But minutes later, he is shot and wounded by a shadowy intruder.

Timothy begs Theodosia to investigate, and shaken by Riley’s assault, she readily agrees. Now, she questions members of the Heritage Society and a man who claims the mansion is rightfully his, as well as Willow’s book publisher and her fiancé, all while hosting a Sherlock Holmes tea and catering several others.

But the Gray Ghost holds many secrets, as do several other key suspects, while this murder mystery plays out on the eve of Halloween.

Two Dames on a Mystery Train

Hi, Everyone.

Duffy Brown here. I am a cozy mystery author of the Consignment Shop Mysteries set in Savannah and the Cycle Path Mysteries set on Mackinac Island.

One of the best parts of writing is chatting with readers. Tonya Kappes—and amazing cozy mystery author–and I have taken this to a whole new level. For the last six years Tony and I plus seventy-five of our readers have taken part in a mystery weekend that includes a mystery train.

You’ve seen them advertised as dinner mystery train rides or wine-tasting and murder, or who-dun-it and dinner. Each year we choose a different location. We’ve been to Pennsylvania, New York, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois. This gives Tonya and me a chance to meet with readers from different parts of the country.

Once we did Two Dames on a Mystery Cruise. We boarded an honest-to-goodness paddle-wheeler for a day-long mystery trip. We all took part in discovering the killer. I brought along Sherlock Bear. No weekend is complete without Sherlock.

Some mystery trains have included stops at old cemeteries and night hayrides under a full moon. We did a roaring twenties mystery party of our very own. We took over the hotel lobby, dressed in costume, assumed characters and followed clues to the killer.

We’ve gone on haunted tours. Mixing mystery with a little ghost hunting is always a good idea. A welcome pizza party gives everyone a chance to meet up with old friends and find new ones. A nightcap of wine and dessert is the perfect way to end the day.

This year’s Two Dames event was headed for Bardstown, Kentucky. Not only did we have the Old Kentucky Mystery Dinner train booked, but there were tours through some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries and My Old Kentucky Home. This included lessons on making fine Southern biscuits. With a little luck, Tonya and I hope to reschedule in 2021.

Tonya and I are best of friends and love nothing more than meeting up with our reader friends. If you get a chance, come play with us at a Two Dames on a Mystery Train weekend. Stay tuned, there is bound to be a Two Dames event in your neck of the woods.

Hugs, Duffy
