Caffeinated Reading for National Coffee Day!

Image result for free coffee imagesHere in the US, September 29th has been designated as National Coffee Day, and that sounds to me like reason to celebrate. You may be able to score a free or discounted cup of joe at your favorite coffee shop, and what’s better to go with it than a nice coffee-themed book…. (fewer calories than a nice chocolate-themed donut! πŸ™‚ )

The Devil's Cup: A History of the World According to Coffee
The author attempts to answer some burning coffee questions – including “Did the advent of coffee give birth to an enlightened western civilization?” and “Is coffee, indeed, the substance that drives history?”

The Various Flavours Of Coffee
Historical fiction / romance involving a would-be poet and a coffee merchant’s daughters

The World of Caffeine: The Science and Culture of the World's Most Popular Drug
This book explores “how caffeine was discovered, its early uses, and the unexpected parts it has played in medicine, religion, painting, poetry, learning and love”.

If you’re feeling adventurous:
Joe Perk
From Goodreads: “The slightly ridiculous tragicomic odyssey of one Joe Perk, a young man alone: inarticulate, simple-hearted and naive; a humble coffee-jerk with a unique talent, as he travels from small town Oklahoma to New York City in order to realize his dream: to become a world champion coffee barista.”

And now for my favorites, the coffee-themed cozy mysteries! πŸ™‚

On What Grounds (Coffeehouse Mystery, #1)
First in the Coffeehouse Mystery series by Cleo Coyle – this is one of my favorite series.

Death by Coffee
First entry in the Bookstore Cafe Mystery series

Enjoy!

“Coffee in England always tastes like a chemistry experiment”

  1. Don’t forget the java jive series by Caroline Fardig, Mug Shot, Death Before Decaf and the next being released in November, A Whole Latte Murder. Sounds like a good day to curl up, especially with all the rain here.
