Close Encounters of the Curd Kind by Kirsten Weiss – Guest Post and Giveaway

Synopsis:

The truth is out there…

Way out there.

Susan Witsend, owner of the best little UFO-themed B&B in the Sierras, is absolutely, positively, not going to get involved in another murder case. Not with her small-town sheriff threatening jail time if she interferes in one more investigation.

So when her neighbor is murdered, Susan exerts all her willpower to stay out of the sheriff’s business. But her neighbor’s daughter, Clare, needs Susan’s help. Clare’s been experiencing lost time, a sure sign of alien abduction. Helping Clare is only neighborly… and totally not interfering. Right?

Worse, Clare’s not the only one with UFO issues. Weird lights in the sky, vanishing cows, and little green men are bringing the mountain town of Doyle to the edge of a panic. Can Susan unearth the truth before her town spirals into chaos?

If you like laugh-out-loud mysteries with complicated heroines (and breakfast recipes), you’ll love Close Encounters of the Curd Kind, book 3 in the Wits’ End series of cozy mystery novels. Read this twisty cozy caper today!

Close Encounters of the Curd Kind is a fun, lighthearted cozy that had me laughing out loud. The setting is unique – a UFO-themed Bed and Breakfast sounds perfectly plausible, but it isn’t something you hear about every day.

When Susan’s neighbor is found dead, she helps the woman’s daughter Clare investigate. In the meantime, local cows are disappearing, and there are strange lights seen in the sky.  It’s as much fun trying to figure out if there are actually aliens coming to town as it is trying to figure out who committed murder.

This is the third book in the series, but the first I had read. I had no problem understanding who was who and keeping up.

Welcome to Wits’ End!

Here are some vacation ideas as you spend your time with us.

Wits’ End is a premier Doyle, California B&B – a historic Victorian home built in the 1860s. Extensively upgraded over the years, today it offers warm hospitality, comfy beds, fabulous breakfasts, and a relaxed, mountain setting in the Sierra foothills. But if you decide to wander from our tranquil gardens and cozy rooms, there’s plenty for you to do!

Hiking

The forests surrounding Doyle are famous for hiking. Big Trees State Park is a short, ten-mile drive. And hiking trails abound throughout the mountains. Ask at the front desk for a local trail map. And take care to stay on well-marked trails. People do occasionally disappear in the woods. Don’t become a statistic!

Stargazing/UFO Hunting

The stars over the Sierra’s appear brighter and more numinous. Far from the big cities, Doyle is free of most light pollution, for an out-of-this-world stargazing experience. And of course, there’s UFO spotting as well! If you’d like to enjoy a guided night hike, just ask at the front desk.

Swimming

Beautiful Alpine lakes sparkle along Highway 4. One of our best loved and largest lakes is Lake Alpine, dotted with granite islands for picnickers and sunbathers. But there are other, smaller lakes and ponds even closer to Doyle for you to enjoy.

Wine Tasting

And be sure not to miss the many wine tasting in Doyle. The town is fast becoming a mecca for wine enthusiasts. Many of the local family-run and boutique wineries have tasting rooms right on Main Street! Enjoy wine tasting without the crowds of California’s better-known wine destinations.

UFO Lectures

Friday through Sunday, your innkeeper, Susan Witsend, will regale you with tales of UFO encounters in Doyle, including the infamous disappearance of the Bell and Thistle Pub, with over twenty patrons inside! (Don’t worry, they all reappeared several months later, minus the pub.)*

* No one has disappeared from Wits’ End!**

** And that murder was totally solved!
