What are you reading Wednesday – 10/28/15

whatareyoureadingwed

What Are You Reading Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by It’s A Reading Thing. To participate, open the book you are currently reading to page 34 (or 34% in your ebook) and answer these three questions.

The Questions are:
1. What’s the name of your current read?

2. Go to page 34 in your book or 34% in your eBook and share a complete sentence. (or two!)

3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

Now for my answers this week…

I’m still reading a few of the books I’ve previously posted, but after yesterday’s list of cozy mysteries I felt the need to read one…

1. Cover Story by Erika Chase
Cover Story (Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery, #3)
An Ashton Corners Book Club Mystery – #3

2. She stopped by the nursing station to see if she could find out anything else about Molly’s condition but they couldn’t, or wouldn’t, add to what she already knew.

3. I wouldn’t mind living in the small southern town of Ashton Corners. For the most part, the people are agreeable, the weather is fine, they have both a bookstore and a great public library. That would be all I’d need!

Thursday Quotables: Eleonora by Edgar Allan Poe

Since I had no review to post today, I decided to join Bookshelf Fantasies in the Thursday Quotables meme.

This isn’t actually from a book that I’m reading right now, but today’s #fallbookchallenge post on Instagram was a “favorite classic scary book”. I prefer gothic or atmospheric horror, so I chose Tales of Mystery and Imagination by Poe. That got me thinking about my favorite Poe stories, and this quote that I love:

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night.”

~from Eleonora by Edgar Allan Poe

To participate, open the book you are currently reading to page 34 (or 34% in your ebook) and answer these three questions.

The Questions are:

2. Go to page 34 in your book or 34% in your eBook and share a complete sentence. (or two!)

3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

Now for my answers this week…

As usual, I am reading several, but here’s one I haven’t mentioned yet…

1. The Victim by Eric Matheny
The Victim

2. Forgive me, but I don’t have the book with me right now so I can’t grab a quote! Here’s part of the Goodreads description instead, and I’ll come back later and add my sentences from page 34.

In the spring of 2003 on a desolate stretch of Arizona highway, Anton Mackey’s life was changed forever. A reckless decision to get behind the wheel when he was in no condition to drive spawned a moment that threatened to destroy everything the 21 year-old had spent his life working toward. In an instant, Anton made a decision to save himself. A decision that claimed the lives of two people.

UPDATE: Ok – finally came back to add my sentences! There’s nothing too exciting happening on page 34 though…

“She gathered a few stems in her fingers, pulled them out, creating a small bouquet. She slid the hair tie of her ponytail and used it to bind the stems.”

3. Takes place in modern day Miami – I wouldn’t mind visiting, but I can’t take the humidity so I have to say no, I wouldn’t want to live there.

Be sure to tell me what you are reading or leave a link to your post in the comments! And before I go….I just wanted to point out that today is National Reptile Awareness Day, in case you were not aware. You’re welcome. 🙂

Now for my answers this week…

1. I’ve finally finished a few of the books I was reading and started some new ones. One book that I’m reading this week is Blue Karma by J.K. Ullrich.
Blue Karma

2. Totally destroyed. In a few hours I’m supposed to convince a roomful of investors that ice is our most secure source of water, and one of our key facilities is a smoking ruin.

3. NO – I would not want to live here. The place may be Earth, but it’s a dry, barren Earth with water privately owned and rationed.

Your turn! Leave a link to your own post in the comments if you have one, or just leave me your answers. Happy reading!

Well, it looks like I completely missed Tuesday this week. I got distracted and never wrote my Top Ten list, and now it is Wednesday already. I’ll see if I can get back on track! 🙂 Before I get too far though, I want to stop and thank Sarah from Sarah’s Bookshelf – I won her book giveaway and received these in the mail yesterday!

Now back to WAYRW…..

3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

Now for my answers this week…

1. Still reading my same books, but I have started a new audiobook – The Hidden Child by Camilla Läckberg.
The Hidden Child (Patrik Hedström, #5)

2. Since it is an audiobook, I can’t give you a quote from page #34, but I can give you a quote from the book  – “And it is always the victors who write the historical narrative.”. This is an opinion held by “Sweden’s Friends”, a Neo-Nazi group who believe that historians have painted a negative and unrealistic picture of the Nazi’s and the Holocaust, and that Sweden needs to make major policy changes.

3.  This story shifts back and forth between present day Sweden, and WW2 era Sweden and Norway. I would not mind visiting or even spending time living in Sweden or Norway now, but if I had to travel into the past when there were Nazi’s about, then I would NOT want to live there!

So how about you? Leave a link to your own post or let me know what you are reading this week in the comments. (and if you’ve read any of the books in this series, I’d love to know what you thought of them!)

1. The same as it has been for the past couple of weeks! This is what happens when I read too many books at once – I don’t finish any of them. 🙂 Here are links to past WAYRW posts for all of the books I’m still reading, if you’re interested in reading more about any of them.

happy-homicides Prisoner's Base (Nero Wolfe, #21) Siege and Storm (The Grisha, #2) The Mine (Northwest Passage #1)

The only thing I have finished recently is a cozy mystery audiobook I was listening to during my commute back and forth to work – hopefully I will have a review for that this week.

I’d still love to hear what you are reading this week – leave me a link to your post or a comment to tell me.

Friday Feature and Follow – 9/18/15

Alison Can Read Feature & FollowFeature and Follow Friday is hosted by fellow bloggers Parajunkee and Alison Can Read. Every Friday they feature one or two bloggers and pose a question for other participating bloggers to answer. It’s a chance to find some new blogs to visit, and gain some new followers in return.

This week’s featured blog is I Heart Reading  – be sure to visit them and check out the feature on the hosts’ pages.

Here’s this week’s question for participants: Help us give our Feature Interview Questions a fresh look! What questions do you think we should ask our weekly features?

My suggestion – Have you ever been surprised by a book you didn’t think you were going to like? (because it wasn’t your preferred genre, or you were only reading it based on a friend’s recommendation, etc…)

3. Would you like to live in the world that exists within your book? Why or why not?

Now for my answers this week…

I have a bad habit of starting a book, then getting distracted by another book, and then another, so I end up reading several at once. I’m STILL reading The Mine and Siege and Storm (my last 2 weeks WAYRW books!), but I’ve also started another….

1. Prisoner’s Base by Rex Stout
Prisoner's Base (Nero Wolfe, #21)
Nero Wolfe #21 – I can’t resist an ebook sale, and it was under $2 at Barnes and Noble! I also can’t resist Archie Goodwin…. 🙂

2. “I agree. Also, of course, the alternative is ridiculous for me. Leaving here, you can go straight home, phone Mr. Helmar that you are there and will see him in the morning, and go to bed, leaving me to go whistle for my dinner. I’ll have to risk that; there’s no way around it.”

3. If we can make this a time-travel story with a convenient portal so that I can get back home to my laptop and air-conditioning, then absolutely! I would love to visit Wolfe’s brownstone and wander the streets of 1940’s NY. I wouldn’t even mind staying for a while. I don’t think I’d be prepared to give up my modern life and live there permanently though.

So that’s me this week. How about you – what are YOU reading?
